A Guide to 3D Modeling

Office building project

3D modeling is an emerging trend in modeling that is used to create 3 dimensional images and renders. If you have come across a sculpture, then you know about 3D modeling. This form of modeling can be achieved using a computer and some special tools designed for this specific purpose. With the software, an artist can model or sculpt an  object or image of his imagination into a 3D computer image. Here’s a good post to read about Revit content services, check this out!

The computer achieves 3D modeling since every computer representation is composed of multiple polygons, each with three or more vertices. When you put two or more of these polygons together, you will get a virtual object that is known as a 3D model. Using a computer and specialized software, the artist creates an outline that can be used to develop the shapes of the characters that he or she visualizes. A number of techniques are put into play when it comes designing the models. You can hire an Autodesk consultant here.

Primitive modeling is one of the techniques that have been in existence in 3D modeling for quite a long time. The basic nature of this form of modeling means that drawbacks are unavoidable. In this technique, special software is used to provide a set of boxes, spheres, and other 3D primitive shapes that the artist alters in order to suit his or her characters. With the primitive shapes available for this model, it is worth noting that it is only useful when creating basic renders such as furniture and houses since it is very hard to create complex shapes with it.

Another popular technique in 3D modeling is NURBS (Non Uniform Rational Bspline). In this technique, a set of equations is used to generate a mathematical curve that can be transformed into a variety of shapes. By looking at this model, all you can see is a simple set of curves that can be manipulated in any way you like. The curves are referred to as NURBS and have special control points that can be used to drag them, creating any shape you would like.

In Surface modeling, another popular form of 3D modeling, an artist is required to develop spline cage profile for a 3D character. The splines in this case will intersect with each other allowing the creation of simple and complex shapes which form a closed profile of the character unlike in NURBS. This method has turned out to be very popular mostly because it brings together the best qualities of 2D and 3D modeling, giving artists more flexibility. Other methods include polygonal modeling which is used in both organic and inorganic modeling and the Sub Division modeling which is a hybrid between Polygonal modeling and the NURBS.
